O Convento de S. Francisco

"O Convento de São Francisco da Cidade" is one of the best-selling publications by Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa, with this special re-edition designed as part of the celebrations marking the 182nd anniversary of the institution. The book explores the history of the convent and its cultural and architectural significance throughout the development of modern Lisbon.

Originally founded in the medieval period, the convent became one of the city’s major architectural landmarks, surviving the 1755 earthquake and later becoming home to the Academia de Belas-Artes, the predecessor of today’s faculty. The publication traces the building’s many transformations and identities, reflecting the intertwined histories of the convent and the institution that continues to occupy it.
